Privacy policy
Effective 19 August 2026
The short version
Your speech is recognised on your iPhone and never sent to us. Your recordings stay on your device. This website stores one thing: the email address you type into the launch notification form. We do not run ads, and we do not sell anything about you to anybody.
Who we are
ScriptCam is a teleprompter app for iPhone, built and published by ScriptCam. Questions about this policy go to hello@scriptcam.app.
The app
Speech recognition
ScriptCam follows your script by listening to you speak. That recognition runs entirely on your device, using the speech model that is already part of iOS. Audio used for recognition is not transmitted to us, is not stored as a transcript, and is discarded as the app finishes with it. We never receive it, so we could not hand it over, lose it, or mine it even if we wanted to.
Your recordings
Video you record is written to your device. When you tap Save it goes to your photo library; when you tap Discard it is deleted. Recordings are never uploaded to us, and we have no way to view, recover, or delete them on your behalf.
Your scripts
Scripts you paste or type live on your device. They are not synced to us. (Optional cloud script sync is planned for a future paid tier; if it ships, it will be opt-in, and this policy will be updated to describe it before it is released.)
Permissions the app asks for
- Camera — to show the preview you read against, and to record video.
- Microphone — to record audio and to drive voice tracking.
- Speech recognition — to turn what you say into the position of the script.
- Photo library — only when you save a take.
All four are requested by iOS, can be refused, and can be revoked at any time in Settings → ScriptCam. Refusing camera, microphone or speech recognition will stop the corresponding feature from working, but the app will not nag you about it.
What the app does not do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No sale or sharing of personal information.
- No account, so no name, password, or profile to leak.
This website
The launch notification list
If you submit the form on this site, we store your email address, which page you submitted it from, and the date. We use it for one purpose: to tell you when ScriptCam is available, plus the occasional note about a significant release. Every email includes a way to get off the list, and you can ask us to remove you at any time by writing to hello@scriptcam.app. Removal is permanent deletion of the row, not a flag on it.
Server logs
Our hosting provider records ordinary web server logs — IP address, timestamp, the page requested, and the browser's user-agent string — which we use to keep the site up and to spot abuse of the signup form. These logs are retained for a short period and then discarded.
Cookies
This site sets a session cookie and a CSRF token cookie, which exist so that the signup form cannot be submitted on your behalf by another website. There are no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, and no third-party trackers.
Who else is involved
We use a hosting provider to serve this website and an email provider to send the launch announcement. They process data on our instructions only. If you download the app, Apple handles the download, any future purchase, and any refund — Apple's own privacy policy governs that relationship, not this one.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, or to object to how it is used. In practice, the only personal information we are likely to hold is an email address, and one message to hello@scriptcam.app is enough to see it or delete it. We do not charge for this and we do not require you to prove anything beyond control of the address.
Children
ScriptCam is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us an email address, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially — particularly if the app ever starts sending data off your device — we will update the effective date at the top and, where we hold an address for you, tell you by email before the change takes effect.
